What is a PMP/PDMP?

Across the country, states have implemented Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMPs) or Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) to provide physicians and pharmacies with access to a patient-controlled substance medication history. State PMPs and PDMPs is designed to assist healthcare providers in combating opioid addiction and abuse.

Get Started with Integration

Step 1: Determine your state's integration capability and funding

PMP/PDMP integration is available in most states. To determine if your state is connected and whether it is funded, click on your state. Keep in mind that this information is updated weekly.

Step 2: Enroll with your state PMP/PDMP

If your state is available for integration, you'll need to be enrolled with your state's PMP/PDMP before you can set up the integration.

Step 3: Receive integration credentials

Once your integration registration has been approved, you will receive your integration credentials in an encrypted email. You will need to use separate integration credentials for each location with a unique group NPI. Remember that approval and integration registration can take 2-4 weeks.

Step 4: Link your RXNT account to your integration credentials

Your Practice Administrator can enter your integration credentials in the RXNT Product Dashboard.

Click Utilities and select PMP/PDMP Connectivity.

On the Locations tab, ensure that valid addresses and NPIs are listed for each location that will be integrated with the PMP/PDMP.

Enter the username and password for PMP/PDMP integration for each location. Click Save to complete the location setup.

Step 5: Assign provider roles

On the Providers tab, set the role for each paid provider account by selecting the option in the dropdown. Click Save to update the provider roles.

Each provider must have a role that corresponds appropriately to their medical prescription authority. Below are the available Provider Roles:

• Physician
• Nurse Practitioner
• Psychologists with prescriptive authority
• Optometrists with Prescriptive authority
• Naturopathic Physician with prescriptive authority
• Physician Assistant with prescriptive authority
• Medical Resident with prescriptive authority
• Medical Intern with prescriptive authority
• Dentist
• N/A (not a physician and/or not checking PMP/PDMP)

Step 6: Complete integration testing (the state of PA only)

Add a new test patient in RXNT with the following details:

Once you are on the patient dashboard for the test patient, you should see the PMP/PDMP details in the upper right, next to the patient information.

Click Report to view additional information and verify that you can see PMP/PDMP details for the test patient.

Once you have verified with the test patient, send an email using the template below to both Nikhil Munasa (c-nmunasa@pa.gov) and Jared Shinabery (jshinabery@pa.gov) with the state of Pennsylvania to confirm that you have completed integration testing.

Pennsylvania will process your completed testing, and you will be notified by BambooHealth when your interface is ready.

Once you have received notification from BambooHealth, enter your PROD credentials into RXNT.

Step 7: Use integration to check PMP/PDMP data

Once your integration is complete, all paid provider accounts with an appropriate role will be able to view the PMP/PDMP scores and reports from the Patient Dashboard.

To see the detailed PMP/PDMP report, click Report.

The full report includes the following sections:

Risk Indicators

This includes all Narx scores, Overdose scores, and additional risk factors for the patient.

 Prescription Graph

Visualize patient prescriptions by the provider over time (up to 2 years). Use the interactive checkboxes for Narcotic, Buprenorphine, Sedative, Stimulant, and Other medications to visualize a specific set of medications.

 Milligram Equivalents

Equivalents for Morphine, Buprenorphine, and Lorazepam allows you to see the total dosage the patient takes of narcotics, stimulants, and sedatives, respectfully. Prescriptions the patient is taking in these drug categories have converted the equivalent of the representative medication to visualize the total amount that a patient is taking.

 Prescription Details

A list of all controlled substance prescriptions for the patient, sorted by date, with the most recent appearing first. Includes fill date, prescription date, medication, quantity, pharmacy, and provider information for each prescription.

 Provider List

A list of all providers that have prescribed controlled medications for the patient, including provider name, address, and phone number.

Pharmacy List

A list of all pharmacies that have filled controlled medication prescriptions for the patient, including pharmacy name, address, and phone number.
