Short keys are a time-saving feature that can be configured for the EHR to allow easy addition of common text block to your encounter templates. The short keys can be configured by a Clinical Admin and used in any RXNT Smart Form.
Setting up short keys
In the EHR, click on Utilities, then under the Clinical Admin Tools select Short Keys
Click + New to create a new short key, entering the desired hot key, phrase, and text.
- Hot Key is the symbol you will type before the phrase so that the system knows you are pulling short key text. Suggested hot key symbols are: @, #, %, *
- Phrase is the text you will type to populate the short key. This is essentially the name of the short key and should not contain any spaces.
- Text is the text that will populate in the encounter from the short key.
You can edit and delete existing short keys as needed using the icons to the right of the short key.
Using short keys
To use a short key in a Smart Form encounter, simply type the hot key followed by the associated phrase. A menu of short key options will appear in the text box and can be selected by clicking on the text. You can also type in the hot key followed by the associated phrase and upon hitting the space bar, your hot key will be automatically recognized.
Use placeholders for already populated fields (such as patient name and gender) to more efficiently take notes. Simply click on the placeholder you wish to use, and when you use this Smart Key, it will auto-populate with the correct text.
